We are so excited to be able to celebrate our daughters bat mitzvah with you.  We look foward to see you in August to help us celebrate this Simcha (A joyous event).

Below is a list of terms and FAQ about a Bat-Mitzvah.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WHAT TO WEAR AT A BAT MITZVAH?

-Men, usually wear dress pants and a collard shirt.  Some do wear a tie and sports coat.

-Woman usually wear dress, pant suit, or skirt and blouse.

 

 

-We ask that all men wear a kippah durring the services.  It is head covering that is placed on top of your head. Do not worry if your do not have one. One will be provided to you, and you can take it home if your wish.  Women can wear on if they wish. 

-We ask that you wear something modest, and respectful.

WHY DO WE THROW CANDY?

- It symbolizes wishing the young person a "sweet" life as they transition into adulthood. It's a celebratory gesture, often timed after the main service or during a special moment. Make sure to you work on your pitching. 

WHAT IS A BAT MITZVAH

Celebrating a Bat Mitzvah is a pivotal moment for Jewish girls, symbolizing their journey into young adulthood at the age of 12/13. This enriching event showcases their commitment to Jewish values and community involvement.  It's a day filled with joy, reflection, and celebration of heritage.

Bat Mitzvah Terms

 

 

 

 

MAZEL TOV- (mah-ZAL tov) ​

     A Jewish phrase expressing congratulations or wishing someone good luck.

TALLIT

   A fringed garment worn as a prayer shawl.  It helps us remember G-d commandments.

TORAH

    The first 5 books of the Bible.  Each week we read a section of it. It takes 1 year to read all five books.  The Torah contains no vowels in it.  

SIDDUR

    Jewish prayer book.  It is read right to left, instead of left to right.  Our prayer books are in Hebrew, English and Trans-litrated.  If you get lost it's ok, the Rabbi and others with help you.

RABBI

    A spiritual leader and religious teacher in Judaism.  The Rabbi is  usually the one to lead the service.

CANTOR

   A religious musical leader in the Jewish Community.

HORAH

   A special circle dance, that helps celebrate the happy event.  This will occur durring the party after services.

HAVDALAH

    A Jewish ritual that marks the end of Shabbat and Jewish holidays.

TZEDEKAH

     The Hebrew word for charity and justice.  Isabella did charitable project for her Bat Mitzvah, that helped the local community.
